An online workshop to help build Scotland’s Natural Capital Market Framework

Thursday, April 25 · 2 – 4pm

The Future Environment Directorate of the Scottish Government is developing a market framework for natural capital and this workshop is an opportunity to discuss the key issues. The forthcoming Natural Capital Markets Framework will strengthen the existing Interim Principles for Responsible Investment in Natural Capital and set out the approach to using public spending more effectively to leverage in responsible private capital.

Public and private investment in restoring and protecting Scotland’s natural capital is essential if we are to address the nature and climate emergencies at the pace and scale required. The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring that this investment is responsible, contributes to a just transition, benefits communities and achieves robust environmental outcomes.

The Scottish Approach to Service Design is being used to develop the market framework, currently in the engagement phase.

  1. Discovery phase – to identify key areas of debate (complete)
  2. Engagement phase – to discuss key issues with interested participants (current)
  3. Validation phase – to sense check early drafts of the market framework ahead of Ministerial consideration (summer).
